Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah being offered more than Ronaldo by Saudi club Al-Ittihad
The Egyptian’s former Anfield teammates Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Fabinho have all moved to the Saudi Pro League this summer.
Mohamed Salah is once again being tipped to make the move to the Saudi Pro League with talk of him being offered a salary that would eclipse even the eye-watering sums being paid to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. Would Liverpool really let him go this close to the end of the transfer window?
What Saudi salary is Salah being offered?
Earlier this month we told you that the player was linked with a move to Al-Ittihad, with Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiah reporting that the team were willing to offer Liverpool a transfer fee of around $75 million for the 31-year-old, along with a two-year contract for the Egyptian worth $225 million.
There has been no official response from Liverpool but Salah’s agent was quick to dismiss the initial speculation that the Egyptian could leave the club this summer.
“If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer,” said Ramy Abbas Issa, Salah’s agent. “Mohamed remains committed to LFC.” That contract was a new three-year extension. Surely there’s no way that an extra few dollars would change that ‘committment’, right?
Liverpool players make the move to Saudi Pro League
Salah is the latest member of Liverpool’s Premier League-wining team of 2019/20 to receive interest form the Saudi Pro League. Liverpool have made a concerted effort to refresh the squad this season and a number of older players have been allowed to leave Anfield.
Club captain Jordan Henderson and his midfield partner Fabinho have both joined Saudi clubs this summer, moving to Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad respectively.
Roberto Firmino has signed for Al-Ahli, while former Liverpool star Sadio Mane has left Bayern Munich after just one season in Germany to sign for Al-Nassr.
Who else plays for Al-Ittihad?
For now it would appear like Salah will remain with Liverpool and play a key part of the rebuilt frontline for the season ahead. He’s already off and running in the goals. Al-Ittihad have already made a number of headline-grabbing acquisitions this summer to bolster their squad.
First through the door was reigning Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, who joined from Real Madrid. Benzema’s compatriot N’Golo Kante has also moved to Al-Ittihad, where he will partner Fabinho in midfield. Portuguese forward Jota made the move after a title-winning campaign in Scotland with Celtic, although things haven’t gone so well for him.
Al-Ittihad are reigning Saudi Pro League champions, having finished six points clear of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in 2022/23.
Will Salah move to the Saudi Pro League?
If you want my opinion, there’s not a chance he’ll go this summer, but the SPL get another heavy helping of publicity. And when next summer rolls around, Liverpool offload a 32-year-old forward with the abundance of young attacking talent taking over.
