Pep Guardiola’s champion juggernauts have an unexpected title contender in Arsenal this season, and need all three points against the Geordies.
When Manchester City prepared once again to defend their Premier League crown at the start of the 2022/23 season, manager Pep Guardiola, like the rest of those following the English top flight in recent years, could not have expected that the main challengers for the crown would be Arsenal. Manchester City
Five points behind the aforementioned Gunners and given Arteta’s side appear to have navigated their brief stumble, dropped points at home cannot be accepted for City. Erling Haaland’s agent may have been talking again about the appeal of Real Madrid, but these are the game where the record-breaking striker needs to turn up.
Having a fit-again Kevin de Bruyne will aid that, but it’s at the back where most concerns lie, especially given the speedy attacking threat their opponents possess.
Newcastle United
A top four finish would be a dream for the Geordie fans given that the Saudi riches have yet to be fully deployed. Yes, some investment in the squad has been made but nothing that had any of the traditional ‘big boys’ particularly concerned at the start of the campaign.
It has certainly helped that two of those giants, namely Liverpool and Chelsea, have completely fallen apart and that has allowed the Toon Army to take a step forward earlier than planned. What a job Eddie Howe has done, and a result at the Etihad will be cheered as loudly in half of north London as it is around the Gallowgate.
Manchester City vs Newcastle United prediction
I can make an argument for the visitors getting something out of this game, especially given they were unlucky not to get more from their 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture. That said, I think this is where City show their credentials, walking away with a two or three goal advantage.
