Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani could both return to the Uruguay national team. According to the journalist Jeremías Wernek from Brazil and Buysan from Uruguay, Gremio were notified by the Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) of Suárez’s call up for the games against Argentina and Bolivia which are set to take place on 16 and 21 November, respectively.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona striker, who has been linked with a move to Inter Miami, has not featured for his national team since the game against Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in which the side, led by current Sevilla manager, Diego Alonso, were knocked out at the group stage.

Marcelo Bielsa, since his arrival, has opted against using Suárez and Cavani as part of his squad, instead preferring to go for youth. It now seems his plans have changed.

Suárez’s fantastic form for Gremio

The former Leeds manager’s change of mind presumably comes from Suárez’s fine form at club level, where he has 22 goals in 46 games in Brazil. His level has increased significantly over the past 10 games, in which he has 6 goals and 5 assists, giving him an average of at least one goal participation per 90 minutes. His goals have helped Gremio fly up the table and sit in fourth place in the Brazilian league, nine points from the top.

Despite not being called up yet by Bielsa, that has not stopped Suárez from supporting the Celeste. The best example of his positive mentality was a reply to a tweet from the official Uruguay national team account, in which the side celebrated their victory over Brazil.

Cavani set to return to the side

He also gave Darwin Núñez his famous number 9 shirt during his absence, although the current Liverpool forward did indeed confirm that he would return it should the forward come back into the fold.

Suárez’s return might not be the only newsworthy return in the South American side’s squad, as told by Buysan from Uruguay. According to the reports, Boca Juniors have also received a notification from the AUF that Cavani is all set to return to the national team. The former PSG striker will play in the final of the Copa Libertadores this weekend against Marcelo’s Fluminense, and he has 3 goals for the side since he made his debut.
