The three Mexican players who have battled in the Champions League face the last day of the group stage, with some things still to play for. This Tuesday, Hirving Lozano will feature in the Napoli match against Liverpool, while Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez will do the same in Rangers versus Ajax.

Napoli, the joint-best team so far

Spalleti’s squad is, along with Bayern Munich, the best team in the Champions League group stage. The team have a 100% record after five matches played. With the top spot in Group A all but certain to go to the Italian side, their final challenge is to take on a struggling Liverpool. Only a catastrophe would cause Hirving Lozano’s team drop to second.

After his injury at the beginning of the season, ‘Chucky’ has returned to prominence with Napoli and is once again a starter in Serie A. This season, in the Champions League, he has played 216 minutes over four games and has one goal on his tally.

Ajax, Europa League bound

The team from Amsterdam has been one of the disappointments in the Champions League this year. Ajax have only secured three points in group A, which puts them in third place and with an almost guaranteed ticket to the Europa League. This Tuesday they face Rangers and only a win by more than 10 (ten) goals would mean that Ajax could continue in Europe’s top competition. Unlikely? Quite.

Edson Álvarez will try to finish his group stage campaign in a good way. The midfielder has featured in five games in this Champions League campaign and, like Lozano, he has scored a single goal, while Jorge Sánchez, also of Ajax, is aiming to play in his fifth match in the competition.
