MLS announces million-dollar, multi-year sponsorship extension with Adidas

A statement said “Adidas will continue as the official supplier for the League, its clubs and youth academies” to provide kits and training gear.

A few days before the 2023 season starts, Major League Soccer continues to positive steps forward, as this Wednesday the league announced the renewal of the contract with the German brand Adidas, which will continue to supply the kits for all teams in the competition.

MLS announced via an official statement that this renewal with Adidas will allow the German brand to continue supplying equipment to all Major League Soccer franchises, in addition to providing footwear, training equipment and the official ball. MLS and adidas began their relationship at the League’s creation in 1996.

How much is the new MLS x Adidas deal worth?

According to CNBC, the new agreement with Adidas is worth a whopping $830 million, a record amount in the history of MLS and North American soccer. It will be divided into $138.3 million dollars annually, a figure never seen before in American football until now.

It should be noted that the previous MLS contract with Adidas, which was signed in 2017 and runs through the 2024 season, was worth $700 million, a figure that, at the time, was a record for MLS, but one that the renovation has now surpassed, highlighting the constant growth of US soccer.

What did Adidas say about the deal?

We are so pleased to extend our partnership with adidas, the leading soccer brand in the world,” said MLS Commissioner, Don Garber. “Adidas had been helping to drive the popularity of MLS and the sport of soccer in North America for generations and we look forward to working closely with them to accelerate our growth leading into and following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.” MLS say that the new agreement “features additional investment in youth development and community activation.”

After the announcement of this million-dollar agreement between Major League Soccer and the prestigious German brand, the relationship between both parties will continue after several years of joint work. Through this long-standing agreement, Adidas have provided important special collaborations with each of the franchises, which have launched special edition jerseys that are usually worn at some point during the season.
