LEAGUE CUP
Non-stop Gold Cup, Liga MX, Nations League and Leagues Cup action take its toll on Henry Martin
The Mexican striker was injured during the warm-up before the Leagues Cup game against Chicago Fire and is on his way back to the Mexican capital.
The Águilas del América beat the Chicago Fire 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Gastón Giménez and the Liga MX side now advance to the Round of 16 of the Leagues Cup where they will play Nashville SC. The Mexican side did have to play the game without key striker Henry Martin with the player injured during the warm-up.
Martin was all set to start the game in Chicago but sustained problems that inhibited him from completing the warm-up drills forcing America to make last minute alterations to the team with fans unaware of the seriousness of the injury.
Well connected journalist Gibrán Araige claims that the player from the Yucatan is set to return to Mexico City to begin his rehabilitation and it’s hoped that he will be fit again for the Apertura 2023 game at the end of August.
It is estimated that the striker sustained a serious calf muscle tear after an excessive accumulation of playing time with the 30-year-old heavily involved in a total of 11 games in two months with the Mexican national side and his Club America team (Gold Cup, Liga MX, Nations League and Leagues Cup).
