Not them nor them... this is the top scoring team in Europe’s big-5 leagues in 2024
As the end of the calendar year approaches and the celebrations are prepared, we assess the attacking exploits across the Old Continent.
As 2024 draws to a close, the world’s best football continues with matches from the Premier League and Serie A. Yet, in one critical category, FC Barcelona stands above the rest: finishing the year as the team with the most goals scored across Europe’s Top 5 leagues.
According to OptaJose, the Catalan side end 2024 with 96 goals, surpassing clubs like Bayern Munich (92), Inter Milan (89), Arsenal (89), and Real Madrid (89). Barcelona’s attacking prowess, led by Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha Dias, Lamine Yamal, and others, has made them the most lethal offense in Europe’s major leagues across the calendar year.
Barça’s year of scoring dominance
With LaLiga EA Sports and the Bundesliga on a winter break, Barcelona, Madrid, and Bayern will not add to their tallies before the year ends. Meanwhile, Arsenal, following their 1-0 Boxing Day win over Ipswich Town, will resume action on January 1, 2025, against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The only team to boost their scoring record recently was Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan, who added three goals in their match against Cagliari. This performance brought the Nerazzurri level with Arsenal and Madrid at 89 goals for the year.
Lewandowski and Raphinha: Barcelona’s leading men
Barcelona’s achievement is thanks in large part to Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha Dias, who led the team’s offensive charge in 2024.
As the team heads into 2025 under Hansi Flick, Lewandowski and Raphinha will be more critical than ever. Barcelona will need their firepower to regain momentum in Spain and remain competitive in the new format of Europe’s premier club competition.
