Real Madrid need to keep winning if they are to have any chance of overhauling Barcelona at the top of LaLiga. A victory over Osasuna at El Sadar would move to Carlo Ancelotti’s men to within five points of the Catalans, who have a home game against lowly Cádiz on Sunday. El Sadar is known for being one of the more difficult away trips in Spain, although Getafe, Valencia, Barça and Atlético Madrid have all won in Pamplona this term.

Osasuna vs Real Madrid preview

Osasuna on a poor run of form

Osasuna have been one of LaLiga’s streakiest teams so far this season, having kicked off the campaign with four wins in their first five matches, immediately followed by just one win in six LaLiga games. Jagoba Arrasate’s men are currently on a disappointing run of only one victory in their last eight in the league although they have progressed to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, where they will meet Athletic Club. Los Rojillos are in ninth spot, eight points off the top four and nine clear of the relegation zone. Mid-table seems set to be their home for the rest of the season. Livewire attacker Chimy Ávila misses out through suspension, as does left-back Juan Cruz. Right-back Nacho Vidal and midfielder Ruben Peña are unavailable due to injury.

Real Madrid must win to have hope of catching Barcelona

Real Madrid know that there is no room for any more slip-ups if they are to have any chance of catching Barcelona. A win in Pamplona, which would cut the gap to the league leaders to five points, is a must, especially with Barça firm favourites to defeat Cádiz 24 hours later. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have had a hectic schedule of late having been at the FIFA Club World Cup and that is set to continue now that the Champions League has returned; Madrid face Liverpool in the round of 16 on Tuesday. Captain Karim Benzema has been ruled out through injury, while the game in Pamplona comes too soon for Lucas Vázquez and Eden Hazard. Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni is a late casualty due to flu, while Toni Kroos is also a serious doubt due to illness. Thibaut Courtois has resumed full training, however, and should feature.
