Over a million people have applied for tickets to watch Argentina play Panama later this month.

The reigning World Cup champions take on Panama in a friendly match on 23 March at River Plate’s El Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires.

Fans on social media claimed that their numbers in the virtual line for tickets were over a million.

The gap between supply and demand was huge on Thursday. All tickets available for the match next Thursday have reportedly been sold, but at 2.24 pm today, the waiting number had reached over 1,200,000.

World Cup glory

The match in the Argentinian capital will be the first time fans will see their heroes play on home soil after their success in Qatar.

But it will not only be about the match and the world champions’ return: there will also be shows before, during and after the game.

In addition to the two friendlies with Panama and Curaçao on 23 and 28 March, a tour of Asia is planned for June.

There were great celebrations across the country in December and January after La Albiceleste beat France in the 2022 World Cup final.

Now just a couple of months on, demand has gone through the roof, with only a lucky few getting tickets to see Messi and Co next week.
