PSG pays up millions... but the Mbappé saga isn’t over

Paris Saint-Germain has paid $4.3 million of the $6.5 million it still owed Kylian Mbappé following a ruling handed down by the Conseil de Prud’Hommes on December 12. The court ordered the club to pay its former player $66 million, of which only $59.7 million had initially been transferred, prompting his lawyers to send a bailiff to the club’s headquarters.

According to L’Équipe, PSG would like Mbappé to waive part of the judgment, which also required the club to publish the ruling on its website for a month. Talks between the two sides are ongoing, and if the remaining $2.2 million is not paid, PSG could once again face a visit from a bailiff carrying a payment order.

The dispute began 18 months ago at Mbappé’s request, after he did not receive $59.7 million in bonuses and wages from his final season at the club, 2023/2024. The case is still far from resolved. The Parisian club could file an appeal in an attempt to recover the $66 million it was ordered to pay.

Should it do so, PSG would have little chance of success. Both the Ligue de Football Professionnel and the civil courts, through the Conseil de Prud’Hommes, have ruled in Mbappé’s favor. Through his legal team, the forward has ruled out any form of mediation. The contractual relationship between the two parties ended in July 2024, but the legal fight has stretched on for a year and a half.
