Pulisic, on the brink of hell
Milan and Pulisic are playing their last card to challenge for Europe, but a defeat to Inter on Wednesday could end what has been a disastrous season.
Christian Pulisic and AC Milan are enduring a disastrous season, currently sitting ninth in Italy’s Serie A after a home defeat to Atalanta on Sunday. Despite their struggles, they’re still holding on to a slim hope of qualifying for European competitions.
Their best chance lies in the Coppa Italia, which awards a Europa League spot to the winner. That trophy has become the main target for the team featuring Americans Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah, along with Mexican striker Santiago Giménez.
The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, but now Sergio Conceição’s side is playing for their season. Not even the Italian Super Cup they won at the start of 2025 can make up for the bitter disappointment of missing out on European football.

Milan’s European absence
Milan are, historically, a regular presence in European competitions. The last time they didn’t qualify was in the 2019–2020 season, though that was due to a Financial Fair Play violation. They had finished fifth in Serie A but were excluded by a CAS ruling.
The last time they failed to qualify based solely on league position was in the 2016–2017 season, when they finished seventh.
Currently, Milan sit eight points off the European spots, although they have a game in hand over Juventus. A win tomorrow would move them closer to Europa League contention—while a loss could seal one of their worst campaigns in recent years.
“Inter is the most important match. We want to win the Coppa Italia for our fans,” said Conceição ahead of Wednesday’s clash. “At the end of the season, I’ll speak about these six months in Milan.”
