Qatar puts a price on PSG’s Mbappé, as Real Madrid links continue
The state that owns the club, chaired by Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, cannot imagine selling their star for a cut price.
Paris Saint-Germain is determined to avoid any summer soap opera involving Kylian Mbappé. The club’s stance remains unchanged despite the player’s recent public statements expressing his desire to fulfill his remaining year. If he doesn’t extend his contract or show positive signs of doing so in the coming weeks, the club will make him available for transfer. Even national paper Le Parisien has begun discussing the potential price for the French star’s departure.
How much will Mbappé cost this summer?
According to the Parisian newspaper, Qatar would be willing to accept a €200 million (c.$218m) offer for Mbappé, as previously suggested by Paco Buyo on Mega’s El Chiringuito. While this scenario hasn’t been officially announced yet, PSG has already conveyed to Mbappé's agent, his mother Fayza Lamari, that the best way to resolve the current situation is for the forward to make a prompt decision in order to plan for the next season.
The Emir and the club’s position has remained unchanged despite Mbappé's statements as captain of the French team. The former Monaco player admitted that he had no intention of leaving PSG in the current transfer market and intended to fulfill the final year of his contract, which was signed in May 2022 and extends until 2024, with an option for another supplementary year. However, the player has already informed the club through a letter that he wouldn’t consider renewing until 2025.
As per the contract, the French team captain has until 31 July to activate a unilateral clause. However, based on a notification sent two weeks ago, it is understood that his position is to become a free agent in 2024, which goes against PSG’s wishes. Le Parisien reports that Al Khelaïfi met with Lamari this week and emphasised the need for her son to make a prompt decision in order to protect the interests of both parties.
While there is no ultimatum or specific deadline for Mbappé to announce his decision to renew or not, PSG does not envision a scenario where their star player, for whom they went to great lengths to secure a renewal and who is currently the highest-paid footballer in Europe, leaves without generating any significant revenue for the club. Meanwhile, Real Madrid remains cautious, waiting for PSG to communicate any official transfer listing, provided it is confirmed that he won’t be renewing until 2025.
