Raúl Jiménez has done it yet again. After finding the net twice in the midweek match against Nottingham Forest, today he got on the scoresheet today in the 5-0 win against Edson Álvarez’s West Ham in Week 16 of the Premier League. The Mexican got on the end of a 30-meter assist from Portuguese team mate João Palhinha to head past Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski on 22 minutes. It brought up Jiménez’s 93rd goal in Europe.

During his one and only season at Atlético Madrid, his first European club, he scored just once - in the Week 6 home game against Sevilla in September 2014. He improved his figures at his next club, Benfica - 31 goals in 120 appearances during his time in Portugal. With Wolves he has achieved, so far, his best numbers. He scored a total of 57 goals for the Premier League club between 2018 and 2023. So far this season, he is on four goals with Fulham.

Approaching Javier Hernández’s tally

Raúl Jiménez is now in the Top 3 of the top Mexican scorers in Europe football. Hugo Sánchez maintains a record that seems insurmountable with his 313 goals, scored during his time at four European clubs: Atlético Madrid (75), Real Madrid (197), Rayo Vallecano (17) and Linz (7).

He is followed by Javier “Chicharito” Hernández with 127 goals, which can be broken down as follows: Manchester United (59), Real Madrid (9), Bayer Leverkusen (39), West Ham United (17) and Sevilla (3). Behind him are players including Carlos Vela (89), Hiving Lozano (75) and Nery Castillo (60). It remains to be seen what the Fulham forward’s ceiling will be. He was out of action for several months due to various injury problems during his spell at Molineux. He is under contract at Craven Cottage until June 2025.
