Rayados have identified their prime target in head coach search - but will have to convince him
It appears that Monterrey’s prime target to take over from Martín Demichelis will take come persuasion to return to Mexico.

As Rayados seek out a new head coach in the wake of Martín Demichelis’s dismissal, Matías Almeyda has emerged as a major target for the Liga MX club.

However, AS México has learned that the Argentine is not keen on a return to Mexico, where he coached Chivas from 2015 to 2018, leading Guadalajara to the Clausura 2017 championship.
Nevertheless, Rayados remain persistent and are determined to sit down with Almeyda, who parted company with Greek club AEK Athens on Tuesday.
It’s worth noting that the 51-year-old also has offers from teams in other countries.
What other candidates are there?
Among Monterrey’s other coaching options was Domènec Torrent, who was in charge of Atlético San Luis during the 2024/25 campaign. However, the Catalan now appears to have reached an agreement to take over at Chivas.
Further names have been linked with Rayados, including Hernán Crespo and Gabriel Milito, both Argentinian coaches who are currently unattached

Rayados want new boss ready for CWC preparations
The club’s hierarchy is at pains to have a new head coach in place before the squad returns from its vacation period on May 26, to begin preparations for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
At the Club World Cup, which is to be hosted by the United States from June 14 to July 13, Rayados have been drawn in a first-round group with Italy’s Inter Milan, Argentinians River Plate and Japan’s Urawa Reds.
The Mexicans begin their campaign on June 17, when they take on Inter in Pasadena, California.
