Real Madrid confirm Vinícius Jr. injury: how long will the Brazilian be out for?
The Real Madrid forward is sidelined for several weeks after getting injured on international duty.
Vinícius Júnior travelled back to Madrid after getting injured on international duty with Brazil and landed in the Spanish capital on Saturday to undergo tests to determine the extent of his injury. The LaLiga club have subsequently issued a statement stating that Vinícius has “a tear in the biceps femoris in his left leg”. He will therefore be out for two and a half months in what is a major blow for Los Blancos.
Dr. González, a medical specialist, considers the Brazilian’s injury to be “worrying”. “The fact that the distal tendon is affected is something we have to be very careful with,” he said. “If it’s a small injury, I estimate two and a half months out. But if it is more serious, the player is in danger of undergoing surgery. The same thing happened to Ousmane Dembélé, an injury to the biceps femoris and the insertion of the distal tendon was affected, which caused him a lot of problems. Let’s hope that Vinícius’ injury is a minor one.”
Games Vinícius will miss
Due to his latest thigh injury, Vinícius will miss Real Madrid’s league games against Cádiz, Granada, Betis, Villarreal, Alavés, Mallorca, Getafe, Almería and Las Palmas, and the Champions League games against Napoli and Union Berlin. He is also out for the Super Cup, which takes place between 10 and 14 January, as well as the first knockout rounds of the Copa del Rey.
The Madrid forward had to be substituted after 26 minutes of Thursday’s 2-1 defeat to Colombia at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Madrid’s injury list grows
Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao are long-term absentees with knee injuries, while Kepa Arrizabalaga, Arda Güler, Dani Ceballos, Aurélien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga are all currently injured for the Spanish giants.
