Real Madrid fan cancels wedding for Champions League... and his fiancée wasn’t happy
Alan Reyes was going to get married on Tuesday, but when buying his ticket he had to choose between hearing ‘Hala Madrid’ or ‘I do’.
The ability of football to evoke emotions among its fans is unmatched. Sometimes, the love for a team is so great that it can take precedence over once-in-a-lifetime events. This Tuesday, Spanish sports program El Larguero on the Cadena Ser station presented the case of Alan Reyes, a 22-year-old Real Madrid fan who was attending the Santiago Bernabéu for the first time.
While this might seem normal, the surprise came when Reyes revealed to El Larguero’s team that he had to cancel his wedding to go to the iconic stadium. The explanation? When the fan bought his ticket, he hadn’t realized the game date coincided with his wedding day. Once he noticed the clash, his decision was clear.
From Bernabéu to the dog house
Alan had everything ready for the wedding.
“I talked to the church, canceled the wedding, the meal, I even canceled the sunshine to come and see Real Madrid,” he told the astonished hosts of the program. The 22-year-old had already completed his premarital course, and everything was set with the church, musicians, and banquet – he was supposed to get married on Tuesday.
Alan had an unforgettable night at the Santiago Bernabéu, seeing his heroes fight back from two goals down to win 5-2, leaving “more than happy with the match,” a sentiment his fiancée likely did not share.
“The woman who was going to be my wife hasn’t spoken to me,” Alan admitted. However, he didn’t seem worried at all, quickly adding that “if she loves me, she’ll forgive me.”
