Real Madrid – Manchester City: how to watch, TV, online, streaming - Champions League semi-final
Real Madrid host Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final, second leg at the Bernabéu on Wednesday 4 May with the score poised at 4-3 in City’s favour.
“Si, se puede!” was the chant that rang out across the Cibeles square in the centre of Madrid after Carlo Ancelotti’s side had wrapped up the LaLiga title with a handful of games to spare. “Yes, we can!” sang Madrid fans thronging the street to see the Liga trophy paraded on an open-top bus, returned to the Madridista side of the capital after a year on show in Atlético’s club museum. The timing could not have been better for Madrid, who now only have one goal this season: the Champions League. On Wednesday, Ancelotti’s side will welcome Manchester City to the Bernabéu, two season after going out at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s side, and with the same referee who oversaw that last 16 elimination taking charge of the semi-final second leg.

In the mouths of another set of fans, faced with the prospect of overturning a deficit against a Guardiola-coached side, it could be read as bluster. But Madrid have some form in Europe’s elite club competition, while the former Barcelona coach has somehow conspired to always fall short of the big prize since he left Camp Nou a decade ago, even against familiar Premier League opposition. Only José Mourinho has reached as many semi-finals as the City boss, and although the Portuguese has the same number of Champions League titles as Guardiola, he is one of only five managers to succeed with two different clubs. Ancelotti has three wins, with AC Milan (2) and Madrid, and has reached four finals.
Madrid looking to Benzema for more magic
The aggregate score stands at 4-3 and among Ancelotti’s finest achievements this season has been sharpening Karim Benzema’s finishing skills further still. Mourinho’s cat now has the eye of the tiger, scoring nine in the knockout stages alone this season, including consecutive hat-tricks against PSG and Chelsea. It was Benzema who scored in extra time to see off Thomas Tuchel’s reigning champions and Benzema who found the net twice in Manchester to stave off utter disaster for the visitors.
It is to Benzema that Madrid will look again as they seek a record-extending 14th European crown. Guardiola will remain confident but the weight of expectation hangs more heavily on the City manager, who still has domestic concerns to attend to. Ancelotti has relieved Madrid of any secondary distractions and Benzema, with a little help from Rodrygo and Vinicius, has kept his side in it so far.
