Madrid skipper Benzema injured again
Real Madrid are only just hanging onto Barcelona’s coat-tails at the top of LaLiga and really can’t afford another slip-up after consecutive draws in the league against Atlético Madrid and Real Betis. Those games sandwiched a Copa del Rey home defeat to Barça, which means Carlo Ancelotti’s men haven’t won any of their last three matches and haven’t scored in the last two. A victory over Espanyol is a must and would move them to within six points of the top before Barcelona face a tough-looking away fixture at Athletic Club on Sunday. El Clásico at Camp Nou is the weekend after…Star striker and captain Karim Benzema won’t play against Los Pericos because of yet another injury, while defenders Ferland Mendy and David Alaba remain unavailable and won’t return until after the international break.
Espanyol’s up-and-down recent form
One glance at the league table would make you think that Espanyol are fairly safe but nothing could be further from the truth. Adrià Perdrosa, who hasn’t played this season, is the only confirmed absentee although Diego Martínez has doubts over Dani Gómez and Keidi Bare, who have been in and out of the team.
