Football journalist David Ornstein has today published news that Inter Miami CF are “increasingly confident” of capturing the signature of Lionel Messi. The player has a deal Paris Saint-Germain that runs until the summer of 2023, but would be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.

The 35 year-old has been linked with a shock return to former club FC Barcelona, the club he left 2 years ago after financial ruin left the side without the available funds to offer him a new deal and register him on their books. The report says that PSG are “pushing hard” to keep him in France and that FC Barcelona will try to convince the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner.

In the piece, Ornstein claims that the MLS team expect Messi to arrive and hope he will sign in the coming months”. He also mentions that “discussions between the two parties have been going on for a couple of years” and says that “there is increased confidence that the proposed transfer will materialise.”

Messi to decide on his future after the World Cup

The writer says that the player’s father, Jorge Messi, has been in discussions with Inter Miami owners Jorge and Jose Mas and that “numerous discussions have taken place.” He also writes that despite the confidence of the club, “no more conversations are anticipated before the World Cup” (one that Messi assures will be his last).
