David Beckham and Miami. Two words that don’t appear like they would fit into a timeline of Sergio Busquets’ life, but they do, and are creeping closer and closer. The current Barcelona midfielder has his sights set on one day moving to MLS and playing in the colours of the club owned by David Beckham, Inter Miami. However, it looks as though the can might have been kicked a little further down the road than was previously thought.

According to reports from Relevo, Barcelona are open to the possibility of offering Sergio Busquets a new deal of either 6 months or an entire season. The 34 year-old captained Spain at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, but his team fell at the Round of 16 stage to surprise package Morocco and has since returned to his native country. His future at Barça was almost a forgone conclusion, with many taking as read that the player would head stateside once the 22/23 season concludes, but now it appears the worm has turned, with noises coming out of the club that he may stay until December 2023.

When does Sergio Busquets’ contract end?

Busquets’ contract currently runs until June 2023, when he will be free to leave as a free agent. When the rumours of his departure first appeared, it was said that Busquets wanted to move to Inter Miami in January 2023, after the World Cup concluded, but Xavi’s staff and those close to the midfielder convinced him otherwise.

The Catalan recently announced his retirement from the Spanish national team, with the player having amassed 143 games over 15 years.

“It was an honour to represent my country and take it to the highest level, to being World Champion and European Champion, becoming captain and playing so many games, always giving my all and doing my bit to make everything work out and to make everyone feel as important as they were, supporting everyone and fighting for the same objective with unique, historic and unforgettable experiences”, he said in a statement.
