A security guard who fell while on duty at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar has died in hospital.

The Organisers of the World Cup, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, have released a statement to announce the death of the 24-year-old.

“We regret to announce that, despite the efforts of his medical team, he sadly passed away in hospital on Tuesday 13 December, after being in the intensive care unit for three days,” the statement said.

Death of Grant Wahl

An autopsy of American journalist Grant Wahl has shown he died of an aneurysm in his heart. Wahl collapsed while covering the Argentina-Netherlands World Cup game last Friday.

His wife, Dr Céline Gounder, said on Wednesday that an autopsy was conducted by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.

“Grant died from the rupture of a slowly growing, undetected ascending aortic aneurysm with hemopericardium,” she wrote on her husband’s website.

“The chest pressure he experienced shortly before his death may have represented the initial symptoms. No amount of CPR or shocks would have saved him. His death was unrelated to Covid. His death was unrelated to vaccination status. There was nothing nefarious about his death.”
