Sergio Busquets renewal negotiations expected to be difficult

Barcelona are interested in renewing the midfielder but the club can’t offer the former Spanish international the same economic conditions.

Update:
Barcelona are interested in renewing the midfielder but the club can’t offer the former Spanish international the same economic conditions.

Barça enter March fighting for a domestic treble that includes LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, a tournament that the Catalan giants won a month and a half ago.

Many things need to be decided ahead of next season and the club is already working on potential signings, departures, and renewals.

Barcelona recently closed a deal with Sergi Roberto, who will remain in the club until June 2024, and the club will begin contract extension talks with captain Sergio Busquets next week.

However, the Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports that negotiations will be difficult, due to the club’s financial problems, which will force Barcelona to offer the player a low 12-month extension offer.

Busquets’ options

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández believes Busquets is a key piece in midfield despite being a veteran and wants to keep calling upon his services next campaign.

The player, though, may end up choosing to leave the club if he doesn’t agree with the terms and conditions offered by the club.

In that scenario, he could decide to move to the United States to play in the MLS, as Inter Miami has reportedly shown interest in signing him.

The other option outside Barcelona is flying to Saudi Arabia to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, as the club has tempted the player with a huge salary to play in the Saudi Pro League.

Busquets, a La Masia talent that was brought to the first team by former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, became the player with the most El Clásico games played ever last Thursday, with 46 clashes.
