Sergio Ramos silencing critics
The Spanish center-back has been a commanding presence at the Club World Cup, showing he’s lost little of his edge or leadership.

Sergio Ramos is enjoying a standout Club World Cup at the age of 39. The veteran defender from Camas delivered a commanding performance against River Plate and had already impressed in the opening match against Inter – where he also got on the scoresheet. Teammates and even opponents, such as Alessandro Bastoni, have expressed their admiration.

In the clash with River, Ramos had a heated exchange with Gonzalo Montiel following a robust challenge that left him on the ground. “What are you looking at?” he snapped at the River right-back, who, like Ramos, once played for Sevilla. Later, in the tunnel, he was seen talking with Franco Mastantuono – a young star he praised for signing with Real Madrid.

Ramos’s tournament has lived up to the reputation of the legendary Spanish center-back. His coach, Domènec Torrent, was quick to highlight his impact after the draw with River: “I’ll never stop praising Sergio Ramos, but he’s surrounded by excellent players. We’re lucky to have him. What does Sergio bring? Experience, focus, and the ability to lift his teammates in tough moments.
“Rayados have a good squad – we’ve been working together for 21, 22 days, and that’s what really matters to me. We want to get out of the group stage, and we’ll fight for it until the very last second.”
Seguimos sumando. +1 y portería a cero. Contento con el compromiso, la entrega y el rendimiento del equipo. ¡Ahora, a por la victoria en el último partido de la fase de grupos!

+1 and a clean sheet. Happy with the performance of the team. Now let’s focus on winning the last match… pic.twitter.com/palIKlmKRL
Ramos’s next major challenge will be stopping Urawa’s attacking threat and helping his team secure a place in the last 16 of the tournament. Should they succeed, either Inter or River – the group favorites – would be eliminated. But no one accounted for the Ramos Factor, the trait that has always set him apart and continues to make him decisive, even at 39.
