Gilberto Mora has been turning heads since his Liga MX debut with Club Tijuana. Now, at just 16 years old, he’s lighting up the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, already racking up two goals and an assist in just two matches for Mexico.

His standout performances have not only made waves domestically but have also drawn international attention. Mora has faced elite youth squads from Brazil and Spain in the group stage, and he’s more than held his own - emerging as a key figure for El Tri.

Back home, Mora has impressed with the Xolos of Tijuana, where he’s become a regular contributor despite his age. However, he’s yet to face one of the most iconic defenders in football history: Sergio Ramos.

A potential showdown between Mexico’s brightest young talent and Liga MX’s most high-profile signing hasn’t materialized - and won’t during the regular phase of the Apertura 2025. That’s because Mora’s presence in Chile with the national team rules him out of the upcoming clash between Monterrey and Tijuana.

Even in the previous tournament, the Clausura 2025, the two players didn’t cross paths. Mora did feature in the match between Rayados and Xolos, scoring the game-winning goal. But Ramos was absent due to a suspension stemming from disciplinary action.

When could Mora and Ramos meet?

There’s still a chance the two could meet in the Apertura 2025 playoffs later this fall - if both teams qualify and the bracket aligns. Otherwise, fans will have to wait until next year for a potential face-off, assuming both players remain with their clubs and are available when the fixture rolls around.
