Erling Haaland has been stealing the limelight since signing for Manchester City and the Norwegian has revealed the diet he has followed on the way to becoming one of the world’s best strikers.

A Norwegian documentary called ‘Haaland — The Big Decision’, has been aired on Viaplay, the Scandinavian streaming service. In the documentary, Haaland discusses his diet, one that includes eating cow hearts and cow livers. The City striker, who has 15 Premier League goals already this season, also talks about his water filtration system and stressed the importance of sunlight.

“You don’t eat this, but I care about taking care of my body. I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important thing. People say meat is bad, but... which meat? Which one? The meat you buy at McDonald’s? Or the local cow that eats grass right there? I eat the heart and liver,” Haaland said.

“It’s an old-school diet where our grandparents and parents gave us liver and heart as a child to prevent us from being anaemic, because these are foods that are high in iron and it’s one of the main deficiencies in society today,” says Andrea Buceta, a sports nutritionist.

Haaland has 6,000 calories per day

The 22-year-old eats around 6,000 calories a day to keep his body in top condition, and for many specialists this is a lot, but for the Norwegian’s height and weight it is enough.

Haaland goes on to explain that he tries to sunbathe in the morning, which could prove to be a problem for him in Manchester.

“The first thing I do in the morning is get some sunlight in my eyes; it’s good for the circadian rhythm. I also started filtering my water a little bit. I think it can have great benefits for my body,” he adds.

Haaland on the bench for City

Pep Guardiola has decided to start Haaland on the bench for City’s trip to Copenhagen this evening. On the last occasion Haaland started a Champions League match on the bench – in Borussia Dortmund’s 5-0 win over Beşiktaş in December 2021 – he still scored a brace.
