Tigres UANL lost against Pachuca in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Apertura campaign and following the game head coach Miguel Herrera said that it was time to rejuvenate the team. Los Felinos have started to plan for the next tournament that is set to begin in mid-January and they want to sign Diego Lainez.

Lainez could return to Liga MX

The Mexico international is not seeing the minutes he would like at SC Braga and he could return to the Liga MX following the World Cup. Lainez has one goal and two assists with the Portuguese side in eight appearances across all competitions for a total of 235 minutes played, only three as a starter.

According to TUDN, Tigres UANL have not approached Lainez or Braga, but they plan to in the upcoming weeks. If Lainez accepted the offer from the Liga MX side, he would reunite with manager Herrera, who saw him debut in 2017 in the Copa MX with Club América against Santos Laguna.

Lainez is hopeful he’ll be included in Mexico’s World Cup squad, but the lack of minutes this season could cost him his place. The last time he played for El Tri was in the 3-2 defeat against Colombia last month and he came on as a substitute, playing for a total of 13 minutes.
