Tigres vs Toluca is more than a CONCACAF final: It’s a shot at ultimate global glory
In yet another all-Mexican final, Tigres and Toluca will chase the Champions Cup title - and qualification for two major international events.
In the tournament’s 14th all-Mexican title decider this century, Toluca and Tigres meet in the final of the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup this weekend, as Liga MX’s domination of the continental club competition continues.
A Mexican monopoly
Since Costa Rica’s Saprissa won the tournament in 2005, a Mexican club has been victorious in the Champions Cup or its predecessor, the CONCACAF Champions League, in every season but one.
Now, after Toluca and Tigres both ousted Major League Soccer opposition in the semifinals - beating Los Angeles FC and Nashville, respectively - a Liga MX club is certain to win the competition for the 20th time in the last 21 campaigns.
For Toluca, Saturday’s final is a chance to secure the club’s third CONCACAF crown, and Los Diablos Rojos’ first since 2003. Tigres, meanwhile, are chasing their second title, six years on from Los Auriazules’ maiden triumph.
What does the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup winner get?
In addition to receiving the gold and silver-plated Champions Cup trophy, the victor in Saturday’s final will secure a prize check that rose to $5 million - up from a reported $500,000 - when the competition was rebranded in 2023.
What’s more, the winning team will secure entry to not one, but two international club competitions:
2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup
The 2026 title winners will qualify for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup - a six-team annual tournament contested by the reigning champions of Africa, Asia, CONCACAF, Europe, Oceania and South America.
The Champions Cup winners enter the Intercontinental Cup, played between September and December, in the second round; they, they face the holders of South America’s Copa Libertadores in the “FIFA Derby of the Americas”.
2029 FIFA Club World Cup
On top of entry to the Intercontinental Cup, Toluca or Tigres will stamp their ticket to the next edition of FIFA’s revamped Club World Cup, an event that also features teams from the globe’s six soccer confederations.
Expanded to 32 teams in 2025, the formerly annual Club World Cup is now, like its national-team counterpart, a quadrennial tournament. In 2029, the event is to feature the Champions Cup winners from the 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Last year, Cruz Azul became the Champions Cup’s first Club World Cup qualifier in the FIFA competition’s current cycle, beating Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF final to lift a joint-record seventh continental title.
Toluca vs Tigres: kickoff times, how to watch
In the CONCACAF Champions Cup final, Toluca host Tigres at the Estadio Nemesio Díaz on Saturday, May 30, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

Why is Toluca playing the 2026 Champions Cup final at home?
In the Champions Cup final, CONCACAF regulations award home advantage to the team that had the better record between the round of 16 and the semifinals.
Although Toluca and Tigres both registered four wins and two draws in that stretch of the tournament, Los Diablos Rojos secured the right to host the final by virtue of their superior goal difference (+11 to +3).
