Deportivo Toluca made history at the Nemesio Díez Stadium by defeating Club América and securing their eleventh championship in the professional era of Mexican soccer.

This triumph places them just one title behind Chivas, one of the giants of Liga MX.

With Antonio Mohamed on the sidelines, Toluca won the second leg 2-0 in a match where Alexis Vega and Luan García scored the decisive goals. Vega even celebrated by running to the stands to share the moment with Don Valentín Díez, the team’s president and owner.

Toluca’s championship history dates back to the 1966-67, 1967-68, and 1974-75 seasons. With the advent of short tournaments, they added titles in Summer 1998, Summer 1999, Summer 2000, Apertura 2002, Apertura 2005, Apertura 2008, Bicentenario 2010, and now Clausura 2025.

Now, “Los Diablos Rojos” are just one title away from matching Chivas’ total of 12 championships. In fact, there’s a renewed hunger in Toluca for more silverware. As Antonio Mohamed noted in his post-match press conference, the squad is highly motivated—especially after denying América a fourth straight title.

Mohamed, now a four-time champion as a coach, has twice bested América in finals. During his time with Toluca, he jokingly made a bet with reporters who follow the team: if they won this tournament, he would dye his hair red.
