Update:

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered another major setback in their fight to avoid what would be a shocking relegation from the Premier League.

Spurs looked on course for a narrow 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday but conceded an injury-time equalizer to stay deep in trouble.

Injury-time heartbreak against Brighton

Goals from Pedro Porro and Xavi Simons either side of a Kaoru Mitoma strike had looked set to give Spurs three vital points until Georginio Rutter fired in a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute.

Although Tottenham’s performance was much improved in Roberto De Zerbi’s first home game in charge, the draw will feel like a defeat after yet more dropped points.

Spurs’ worst run in 19 years

Spurs have now failed to win in 15 games, their worst run in 91 years.

The result leaves Tottenham in the relegation zone in 18th place with just five Premier League matches left to play.

Crucially, they have now played one more game than Nottingham Forest, who are two points ahead, and West Ham United, who are one point better off.

Relegation battle tightening

Forest will move five points clear of Spurs if they beat Burnley at home on Sunday, while West Ham can open up a four-point gap with a win away to Crystal Palace on Monday.

Spurs’ remaining fixtures do not look straightforward. They must visit Aston Villa and Chelsea, both chasing Champions League qualification, and host Everton, who are also aiming for European football.

Tottenham remaining fixtures

  • April 25: Wolves (A)
  • May 3: Aston Villa (A)
  • May 11: Leeds (H)
  • May 17: Chelsea (A)
  • May 24: Everton (H)
