Just over a week ago, it looked as if USMNT captain Tyler Adams was set for a move to Premier League giants Chelsea, only for the move to fall through at the last moment. The 24-year-old had travelled to London with the intention of completing his move from Leeds United, with The Athletic claiming the transfer had “hit a snag” and Sky Sports similarly reporting that “talks had broken down”. Now, Adams is expected to join Bournemouth, who are about to embark on their second consecutive season in the English top flight.

Did Chelsea choose Caicedo over Adams?

The vague reasons given for the failed move to Stamford Bridge, which came just hours after Moisés Caicedo had revealed his preference over a move to Chelsea over Liverpool, suggested that The Blues may well have pulled the plug, believing the Ecuadorian to be a better option. They have since completed a British transfer record move for Caicedo.

Adams agrees deal and passes medical with The Cherries

However, it looks as if Adams has still got his summer move back to the Premier League, with Italian journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealing on Friday that the American midfielder had agreed a five-year contract with The Cherries and had successfully done a medical. The “agreement has been sealed”, with the transfer expected to be “completed soon”.

Adams played 24 times in the Premier League after moving to Leeds in July 2022 but suffered a hamstring injury in March and missed the remainder of the season, during which time The Whites suffered relegation to the Championship.

Leeds to recoup fee paid for USMNT captain

The former New York Red Bulls star is expected to move to Bournemouth for a fee of around £20 million (circa $25.5 million), the same fee for which he reportedly left RB Leipzig for Leeds.
