The 2022 FIFA World Cup is five months away and the United States men’s national team are looking for teams to play prior to making the trip to Qatar in November. According to multiple reports, the USMNT are in talks with Japan and Saudi Arabia to play in Europe in pre-World Cup friendlies in September.

It was the USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter who confirmed that they are looking to play in Europe in the last international break of the year against national teams that will also participate in the World Cup this year. A journalist from TUDN said that the United States are considering playing a match in Germany and another one in Spain.

The USMNT has four preparation games left

The US have started their preparations for the World Cup with two friendlies during the current international break. Last week, the USMNT defeated Morocco 3-0 and then followed up with a 0-0 draw against Uruguay at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City. This means that Gregg Berhalter only has four games left prior to making the trip to Qatar in November.

Two of those games will take place this week for the start of the CONCACAF Nations League when they host Granada on 10 June and four days later they will play against El Salvador at Estadio Cuscatlán. The Americans also learned last week that they will play against Wales on 21 November in their debut in the World Cup after the Dragons secured their spot by defeating Ukraine 1-0.
