What do Pumas need to lead the Clausura 2026? The league permutations
A final-day twist could still reshape the standings, with every goal carrying unexpected weight in the title race.

Pumas go into the final round of the Clausura 2026 with a real chance of finishing top overall, in a tournament finale where first place is still up for grabs. The university side have 33 points and sit just two behind Chivas, the current leaders on 35, keeping the race alive until the end of the regular season.
The situation leaves Efraín Juárez’s team in a competitive position, though not in full control of their fate. Unlike Chivas, who depend only on themselves to secure first place, Pumas need a combination of results to climb to the top.
What Pumas need to finish top of the Clausura 2026
To end the Clausura 2026 as overall leaders, Pumas must meet one main condition: win their final-round game. Their opponent will be Pachuca, a team that also enters the match with ambitions near the top of the table.

With a victory, the university side would reach 36 points, their best total of the tournament. However, that result alone would not guarantee first place.
The second key factor is Chivas’ game against Tijuana. If the Guadalajara side lose, Pumas would take top spot by moving past the current leader’s 35 points.
If Chivas draw, both teams would finish on 36 points, meaning first place would be decided by goal difference. At the moment, the Rebaño hold a narrow edge at +16, while Pumas are on +15, forcing the capital club not only to win, but to do so by a sufficient margin.

The game against Pachuca carries extra implications. The Tuzos, with 31 points, still have a mathematical chance of moving up the standings, turning the match into a direct clash between teams in the upper reaches of the table.
Everything will be decided over 90 minutes, where every goal could make the difference, both in points and in goal difference. For Pumas, the objective is simple: win and keep the pressure on until the final whistle in the race for first place in the Clausura 2026.
