What is Lisandro Martínez’s number at Manchester United?

Manchester United have released the number of their new signing from Ajax. He will use Paul Pogba’s number.

What is Lisandro Martínez’s number at Manchester United?

Manchester United made official their two most recent signings. Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martínez have been the two new cogs added to the Erik ten Hag wheel, with fans hoping that finally - after various unsuccessful attempts with rookie and veteran managers - they have a man to lead them back to the top of the Premier League. These two footballers have a connection with Ten Hag’s former club, Ajax, and also have a link with the Dutch coach on the Argentine side.

Following the announcement of both acquisitions, the Red Devils have now released the numbers for both players. Eriksen will wear the ‘14′ on his back, and Martínez has chosen the ‘6′.

Martínez has Pogba’s number

The international for the Albiceleste will wear on his back the number recently used by Paul Pogba, now returned to Juventus. In this way he breaks with the ‘21′ used at Ajax, and also with the ‘16′ marked on his shirt with Argentina recently, although it transports him to the past when he did use it in Buenas Aires for his team, Defensa y Justicia. It’s a shirt that did not bring much luck to the French midfielder in his five seasons in Manchester, so a fresh owner is maybe a good thing.

Martínez will be the first South American player to have the number ‘6′ within Manchester United. Before Pogba, it was used by the likes of Jonny Evans, Nani, Wes Brown and, more impressively, Rio Ferdinand. It’s a number that is linked within the club to defenders and also midfielders...

The Argentine could be a hybrid between defender and midfielder throughout this new campaign. United is not a team that has many players in the position, let alone those that can offer certain guarantees.

That is why, for Ten Hag, Martínez could prove to be a valuable signing, with the Old Trafford faithful ready to sing his name, and number, if it turns out that way.
