Inter Miami y Messi, con el objetivo romper racha de Monterrey en Concacaf Champions Cup
Inter Miami

Inter Miami have an uphill task as they look to overturn a first leg deficit against CF Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. They need to get out of the winless run that has seen them go without a victory in their previous four games. Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez are set to lead the line for The Herons as they travel to Mexico for what is set to be one of the toughest games they will face all season.

A week ago, the first leg ended with the advantage for the Mexican side, as they scored a late goal to seal an away victory at Chase Stadium. The 1-2 scoreline gives Tata Martino’s side a hugely daunting task: win at Estadio BBVA.

What What result do Inter Miami need beat Monterrey and qualify?

Given the scoreline, only a win will do for Messi and Miami. A draw or a loss would not be enough for them to overturn the aggregate scoreline.

Will Inter Miami go through if they win by one goal?

In the event of a 0-1 win to Inter Miami, Monterrey would still qualify for the semi-finals, given the away goals rule. A 1-2 win for Miami - exactly what Monterrey achieved in the previous leg - would lead to a 3-3 aggregate draw, meaning extra time would be required.

Were they to win 2-3 or more, with a one-goal advantage, the Florida side would seal a place in the final four on the basis of having scored more away goals than Monterrey (2) in the first round.

Any win from Miami by more than one goal would see them go through to the semi-finals on aggregate.

How many goals have Messi and Suárez scored in the CONCACAF Champions Cup?

Messi and his side have scored 6 goals so far in this edition of the CONCACAF Champions Cup across the three games they have played. Of those six goals, Messi and Suárez have had their hand (OK, feet) in four of them.

The duo scored two each against Nashville in the previous round, while Robert Taylor and Tomás Avilés were the authors of the other goals scored by Inter Miami in the current campaign.

The CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal second leg between Monterrey and Inter Miami will be played at Estadio BBVA, in Monterrey, on Wednesday 10 April 2024. Kick-off is scheduled for 10.30 p.m. ET / 7.30 p.m. PT.
