After losing on home soil to Canada, the United States are already preparing for their next match of September’s FIFA international window.

The United States men’s soccer team has been going through a regeneration period since its disappointing showing at this summer’s Copa América. But it looks like it’s going to be a long process for US Soccer, judging by last night’s performance against Canada in Kansas.

A demoralizing 1-2 defeat on home soil left a bad taste in the mouth, but there is no time to dwell on it. The Stars and Stripes will have to recover as soon as possible as they are back in action again in the last match of the international break.

It could also be interim coach Mikey Varas’ last game in charge. We are still awaiting the official announcement that Mauricio Pochettino will take over as head coach of the USMNT - confirmed is expected next week. In the meantime, Varas admitted that he witnessed communication errors in his team that must be worked on and corrected.

Who will the USMNT play?

The United States men’s team will host New Zealand on Tuesday September 10 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio with the game scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Eastern Time / 4 p.m. PT. The USMNT and New Zealand have met a total of three times previously, with two US wins and one draw.

A victory seems more than necessary in the last match of the FIFA window. The Americans have not won a game since the 2-0 victory over Bolivia at the Copa América back in June.

If we go back to before the summer, the balance is even worse - just two victories - four defeats, one draw and one victory... a run of results that stands as one of the worst in the recent history of the national team.
