We’ve nearly reached the halfway mark of the qualifying campaign in the CONMEBOL zone with six guaranteed places at the 2026 World Cup on the line with the seventh placed side heading to an intercontinental play-off.

Ten teams are in contention and after eight games, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay have impressed and are odds on favourites to secure their berths at the US/Canada and Mexico co-hosted tournament.

Brazil have failed to impress to date and with four defeats in eight games sit in fifth place on ten points and would need to really to mess up in their pursuit for a place at the 2026 competition.

Things are looking even less rosy for La Roja with Chile just boasting one win in the eight matches to date in the qualification process and will be looking to deliver a surprise next week in the Brazil game to kick-start their late push for a place at the World Cup.
