Pedri breaks down again: when will he return to action with FC Barcelona?

The Spanish midfielder broke down in the club’s draw against Athletic.

Pedri’s latest injury has opened up a serious issue at FC Barcelona. Within the club, this new relapse - the third of the season - has been received with absolute bewilderment and unease, especially because both the player and the professionals who accompany him had done their utmost to avoid another thigh injury.

All the prevention work, the hours spent in the gym, the strict diet, the psychologist’s help, the coach’s management of minutes and loads, the balanced life outside the sporting sphere, the quality training sessions... everything has gone down the drain.

Pedri not undergoing surgery

Right now, the uncertainty about Pedri’s situation is such that nobody is willing to provide a return date. The club says that he could be back in a month and a half. “He will be back when he has to be,” they point out.

In Pedri’s case, it is also not advisable for him to undergo surgery to solve his thigh problems. Unlike Samuel Umtiti and Ansu Fati, the midfielder is not being considered for surgery. This leaves even less room for manoeuvre for the club’s medical team, who will have to start again from scratch.

It is clear that the club is concerned about Pedri’s condition. We are talking about one of the club’s key players and a starter for Spain. However, in the last three seasons, he has barely been able to play 50% of the games, with the added handicap that he tends to be absent in the final stretch of the season, when the team is competing on all fronts.

The Catalan club is aware that this situation cannot go on forever and that formulas must be found to find a definitive solution. Right now, all scenarios are being considered and none are being ruled out, not even a possible sale in the summer.
