Update:

Bayern Munich have been tipped for success in this year’s Champions League by many, but if there is one team the Bundesliga giants probably did not want to come up against, it is Real Madrid.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: head-to-head record

No two teams have faced each other more often in UEFA competition than Madrid and Bayern, who have met 28 times. The overall record is close, with the Spaniards holding 13 wins to Bayern’s 11, along with four draws.

However, recent history very much favors the boys from the Bernabéu. Look away now if you are a Bayern fan.

Madrid have won the last four two-legged ties between the teams, in the quarterfinals in 2016-17 and the semifinals in 2013-14, 2017-18, and 2023-24. The Spanish side have also progressed to the last four every time the clubs have met in the quarterfinals (1987-88, 2001-02, and 2016-17).

Real Madrid dominance in numbers

In terms of individual games, Madrid are unbeaten against Bayern in nine matches, winning seven of them, and have not lost any of the last eight meetings at the Bernabéu, where they have also recorded seven victories.

On top of all that, Real Madrid have won nine consecutive two-legged ties against German clubs, while Bayern have won just one of their last eight two-legged ties against Spanish opposition.

A trend or a turning point?

Are these stats a sign of things to come, or are these streaks there to be broken?
