Why is Casemiro not playing for Manchester United against Copenhagen in Champions League?

Played two, lost two and seven goals against. It’s not the start to the Champions League campaign that anyone associated with Manchester United expected. But it’s proving to be another frustrating season for Erik ten Hag and his team.

Tonight, however, there is more than just the three much-needed points in focus, as Old Trafford holds a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off to honour Sir Bobby Charlton, the club legend who played 758 times across 17 years, scoring 249 goals in the process. But as tributes to one midfielder take centre stage, another multi-trophy winner will be watching on from the stands instead of helping his teammates.

Casemiro missing for United in UCL

After picking up an injury when on Brazil duty during the recent international break, Casemiro stayed in his country for treatment. He has since returned to Manchester but was never going to feature in tonight’s game given he’s suspended.

With the scoreline reading 2-2, in the 76th minute of the game against Galatasaray, the Brazilian was sent off after a foul in the penalty area that handed Icardi the chance to score from the spot. He failed but made amends a few minutes later in open play.

Who else is missing for Man Utd?

As well as the Brazilian midfielder Ten Hag is without the following players due to injury: Malacia (knee), Martínez (foot), Shaw (muscular), Wan-Bissaka (hamstring)

There were also a couple of defenders who were a doubt before kick-off, namely Evans and Reguilón but the latter was deemed fit enough to start while the Northern Irishman took a place on the bench.
