Why is the Premier League match between Everton and Man United kicking off late on Sunday?
Everton versus Manchester United gets underway at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.
The Premier League clash between Everton and Manchester United at Goodison Park gets underway at the unusual time of 7pm BST on Sunday.
The game is scheduled for later in the evening to ensure that BT Sport’s coverage of the match doesn’t clash with Sky Sports’ broadcast earlier in the day.
Originally scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm on Saturday and to be shown live on BT Sport, it was then announced that the fixture had been moved back a day and and would get underway at 7pm.
New Premier League rules
Premier League rules state that teams playing in Europe on Wednesday or Thursday are ineligible to play in the early kick-off on Saturday - a rule that always pushes those featuring in the Europa League to a Sunday kick-off.
Sky Sports will show Crystal Palace vs Leeds United at 2pm and Arsenal vs Liverpool at 4.30pm. The agreement between the league and its two main broadcasters - BT and Sky Sports - does not allow either to overlap in screening matches and therefore there is no other option but to push Everton-Manchester United back to late on Sunday evening.
United take on Omonia Nicosia
United travel to Cyprus on Thursday to face Omonia Nicosia in the UEFA Europa League. Everton won 2-1 at Southampton last time out. Frank Lampard’s side have gone on a run of four straight draws and two wins from their last six league outings.
