Why isn’t Dominik Szoboszlai playing for Liverpool against West Ham in the Premier League today?
Szoboszlai has been a key part of The Reds’ rotating cast in support of Mohamed Salah, but misses Sunday’s trip to face The Hammers.
Liverpool will look to continue their charge towards the Premier League title when they take on West Ham United on Sunday (December 29). Head coach Arne Slot will likely keep rotating his starting lineup for the game at the London Stadium on Sunday but one man who won’t be part of that rotation is Dominik Szoboszlai.
Why Szoboszlai is absent for Liverpool vs West Ham
Other than key forward and ever present Mohamed Salah, who continues to go from strength to strength, The Reds’ midfield and attacking stars have enjoyed both plenty of rest and game time alike, with Slot making the most of the options at his disposal. That includes Szoboszlai, who has featured in all 17 of Liverpool’s Premier League games to date, starting 12 of them.
The Hungarian, however, will miss his first game of the 2024/25 season against The Hammers. In the league leaders’ home victory against Leicester City on December 26, Szoboszlai picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League campaign, incurring an immediate one-game suspension.
What are the Premier League’s yellow card suspension rules?
Premier League rules state that players who receive five yellow cards at any point in their first 19 games are given a one-match suspension. As the season progresses, any player who is booked 10 times in their first 32 games is then given a two-match ban.
