Update:

José Mourinho received his marching orders before the full-time whistle blew in Roma’s 1-0 win over Monza in Serie A on Sunday.

Roma’s 90th-minute winner came through Stephan El Shaarawy, who sealed the victory late on for the home side.

Mourinho sees red

After his side scored the all-important goal, Mourinho mocked Monza head coach Raffaele Palladino for talking too much and ‘crying’, with the former Real Madrid boss using a crying gesture before being sent off in the 100th minute of the match.

“I made some gestures, I said nothing offensive,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia on Sunday. “It was because last season some talented people, but lacking in experience, had some nasty words about us.

Mourinho suspended

The Portuguese head coach will now serve a one-match suspension and miss the club’s upcoming Serie A clash against Inter, one of the clubs where he has won the Champions League. Sunday’s win moved the side from the Italian capital into sixth place in the Serie A standings.
