Just before the restart, after a stunning Vinicius Jr goal, the referee stopped the game between Benfica and Real Madrid, with the Brazilian player quickly making his way off the pitch and sitting on the bench.
Fingers were pointed by Vini Jr at Benfica’s Prestianni just before the kick-off to restart the game. The Real Madrid forward ran to referee François Letexier who immediately paused the game.
The French official activated the anti-racism protocol, holding his arms aloft to form an ‘X’ while he figured out what happened and diffused the tense situation.
After speaking to both managers and a number of officials, and Vinicius Jr making his way from the bench to the pitch, the game was restarted around the hour mark.
