Lamine Yamal will not wear number 10: Spain’s World Cup 2026 jersey numbers revealed

Ten days before the 2026 World Cup kicks off with Mexico vs South Africa, the mystery has finally been solved. After Luis de la Fuente announced Spain’s 26-man squad, fans had only one question left: which jersey number would each player wear?

For collectors, this was the moment they had been waiting for. Although Spain’s recent games provided clues about the numbers many internationals might receive, nothing was guaranteed. Who would inherit the No. 9 shirt? And what about the No. 10? Would it go to Lamine Yamal or Dani Olmo? The numbers assigned to Víctor Muñoz, Marc Pubill and Borja Iglesias were also among the biggest unknowns. Now, all questions have been answered.

Despite inheriting Barcelona’s No. 10 shirt at club level, Lamine Yamal will keep his trademark No. 19 with Spain. The teenager will once again wear the number he sported while helping La Roja win the European Championship two years ago. The No. 10 shirt will instead belong to Dani Olmo during Spain’s World Cup journey across North America.

That decision comes as little surprise. The Barcelona midfielder had already hinted at the switch on social media shortly after De la Fuente announced the final squad.

Gavi, meanwhile, returns to the national team in style. The midfielder will once again wear the No. 9 shirt, reclaiming the number that has accompanied him throughout his international career. After nearly a year away from La Roja, the iconic jersey returns to familiar hands.
