Update:

After 44 games of a dramatic Vanarama National League campaign, Wrexham are on the cusp of promotion to the promised land that is National League 2 (the fourth tier of the English game).

The Welsh side need just one win from the two remaining fixtures to secure automatic promotion and have a chance to go up in front of their own fans on Saturday as they face Boreham Wood.

Wrexham’s win mid week against Yeovil has put the team on a 107 points tally and with just two games of the campaign outstanding, Phil Parkinson’s men hold a four point advantage over second placed Notts County who have an equally impressive 103 points.

Notts County are in action earlier in the day as they face bottom side Maidstone and should the Magpies lose in Kent, then Wrexham would be proclaimed champions without having to kick a ball.

Wrexham vs Boreham Wood preview

Who would have thought that a Wrexham-Boreham Wood ‘non-league’ fixture could generate global interest? This is very much the end product of the ‘Wrexham effect’ after the club was acquired a few years back by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds with their Disney + documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ putting the club on the map with a new legion of fans supporting the club in all corners of the world.

Saturday’s game is certainly set to play a key role when the second series airs later in the year with everything in place for a happy Hollywood ending after we witnessed the drama and pain that the Welsh club endured last season as they fell short in the playoff losing to Grimsby.

Despite a brief wobble at the beginning of April when Wrexham lost away at Halifax, Phil Parkinson’s side bounced back in solid fashion recording a dramatic 3-2 win over direct rivals Notts County with veteran keeper Ben Foster saving a 97th minute penalty kick to add to the drama.

The side from Hertfordshire will be in no mood to contribute to the party as the side from Hertfordshire also need the points to cement their place in the playoffs as the ‘Wood’ currently sit in sixth place with the top seven teams advancing to the post season stage.
