“It’s not shameful at all” -Thierry Henry opens up about mental health
After Nice player Alexis Beka Beka threatened to jump off a bridge, the conversation on mental health within the sport has become a major talking point.
A few weeks ago, Nice player Alexis Beka Beka threatened to jump off of a bridge, causing concern and opening up a conversation about mental health throughout the sport of soccer. Beka Beka has now been reported as safe and is “being taken care of”. France manager Thierry Henry gave his thoughts on the topic, saying he believes it’s a “really important” topic.
“Everyone thinks we’re fine,” said Henry. “We all have problems. Problems that we sometimes find hard to digest, problems that we sometimes hide.”
“At some point, if you show vulnerability, if someone in front of you doesn’t show empathy, you close yourself off. You don’t talk about it, you don’t know where to go, you feel ashamed. It’s not shameful at all.”
