Pako Ayestarán: “I’m totally capable of turning this around”
The Valencia coach says he still has faith in himself and the players after his side fell to a fourth straight league defeat against Athletic Bilabo.
Valencia coach Pako Ayestarán says he remains confident that his side will turn things around after a 2-1 loss at Athletic Bilbao left them rooted at the bottom of the LaLiga table.
Aduriz condemns Valencia to the bottom of the table
Los Ché took an early lead after just two minutes at San Mamés through Álvaro Medrán but a brace from Aritz Aduriz condemned them to a fourth straight defeat to start off the league season.
Things will get better, says Ayestarán
Ayestarán spoke to the media after the game and reiterated his belief that things would get better for his side.
Do you think you’re capable of turning this around?
“Totally. Both me and the players are capable of turning things around.”
Do you still think that the defence isn’t problematic?
“When you concede a goal obviously there’ll be defensive errors involved. We’re having problems but it’s more about specific moments, nothing deeper.”
Was this the weakest performance you’ve seen from your team?
“We started well but then for about 20 minutes we had a lot of difficulty keeping up and they caused us real problems down the left-hand side. I think the team played well in the second half. We made some changes and had more of the ball. Having said that, it’s true that after their first goal it was as if we’d forgotten how to play, which made things difficult for us.”
Do you think your job is at risk?
“I can’t think of that. I need to concentrate on getting us out of this situation and boosting the team’s morale ahead of the match against Alavés.”
