REAL MADRID

The keys factors in any potential Real Madrid deal for Courtois

Update:
The keys factors in any potential Real Madrid deal for Courtois

The decision by TAS to reduce Real Madrid's transfer ban has resulted in the club elaborating on their transfer strategy for next season. One of the main priorities is Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea's 24-year-old shotstopper, according to El Transistor on Onda Cero. The Belgian was excellent during his time at Atletico Madrid on every occasion that he played at the Santiago Bernabeu. There are some reasons to believe that Courtois is an achievable target for Real Madrid and those reasons are as follows:

1. Courtois rejects a contract renewal

The Belgian goalkeeper's contract with Chelsea expires in 2019 having rejected a previous offer to renew and extend his current deal. Courtois is enamored with LaLiga after his three years on loan from the London club at Atletico Madrid. "When I was in Spain, I was adament that I would return there one day," he told the Times. Last season, his name continued to pop up whenever Real Madrid were mentioned and he said, "I don't know where I will be next season. I have a contract for three years and after that I don't know what the club would like to do."

It sounds as though, with the lightest of arm-twisting, Courtois could be convinced to board a plane to return to Barajas airport in Madrid where he appeared to be most comfortable.

2. The fall of Keylor Navas

Madrid are content with the role Navas has played since joining from Levante 2014 and especially his recovery from the comedy act that took place in the summer of 2015 when he was all but out of the club and David de Gea was lined up to take his place; the only thing that saved his career at Real Madrid was that of a dodgy fax machine, or a dodgy fax machine user. Navas has played a vital role in Real's recent Champions League win but given his age, many believe his best days are behind him and Courtois, at 24, would be an upgrade in that respect.

3. Experience in Spain

Another thing that Real Madrid like about Courtois is his experience in LaLiga. The Belgian arrived at Chelsea in 2011 from Genk, but he went on loan for three season to Atletico Madrid where he won two Zamora ttrophies - the award given to goalkeepers for least goals conceded in the league - a LaLiga title, a Copa del Rey, a Europea League and one European SuperCup. In his final season, he kept 28 clean sheets in 55 games, which was enough to cause Mourinho to send for Courtois to replace Cech in Chelsea's goals.

4. Family in Madrid

Courtois considers Madrid to be like his home and he loves the city and its customs. So much so that he bought a house in the capital of Spain. Also, his daughter Adriana lives in Madrid and he travels there frequently. This factor will be key to negotiations between Madrid, the player and Chelsea. It would be a huge task for Chelsea to convince him to sign a new deal but they are unwilling to get rid of the player either. For example, during the summer of 2015, when Real Madrid tried to get together with Chelsea to discuss the player, their asking price was €100 million.
