Icardi's wife fires a dig at Argentina manager
Messi scored as La Albiceleste defeated Chile, but Inter's Mauro Icardi was overlooked by manager Edgardo Bauza. Wanda Icardi was unimpressed.
Lionel Messi scored the only goal as Argentina scraped past Chile on Thursday night in Buenos Aires, a victory that moved La Albiceleste in to third place in the World Cup qualification standings.
Yet Edgardo Bauza, the manager of Argentina, has received criticism following another match in which his team has play with the panache befitting of it's talented individuals.
Icardi absence
Bauza once again decided not to select Mauro Icardi, in prolific form for Internazionale, to form part his Argentina squad. Icardi's wife, Wanda Nara, took to social media to deliver a dig to the national team boss.
"The end of the film is always the same if the story and the protagonists don't change", she scathed on Twitter. This is not the first time that Wanda has passed comment on matters concerning her husband's career.
Maradona: 'Icardi does not exist for me'
A sub-plot runs beneath the surface of Icardi's continued omission from the Argentina squad. Wanda Nara was previously married to Maxi López, Icardi's former teammate at Sampdoria, and fellow Argentine. Icardi and Nara had an affair and, when news of this broke, her marriage with López collapsed.
In some quarters in Argentina, Icardi's actions are still deemed traitorous. In the summer of 2016, Diego Maradona stated that 'for me, Icardi does not exist'.
Icardi has contributed 20 goals in Serie A so far this season. On a purely meritocratic level, his ongoing absence from the international scene appears curious
