Roma consider Emery as a replacement for Spalletti with Monchi arrival imminent
The former Sevilla manager is not convincing at PSG and could be a replacement for Spalletti, who himself has failed to win over the Roma decision-makers.
AS Roma are considering Unai Emery as a replacement for Luciano Spalletti next season according to a report on Friday in La Gazzetta dello Sport. Despite pushing Juventus in Serie A, the hierarchy at the club are not pleased with Spalletti's and even less so after Roma were knocked out of the cup against rivals Lazio.
Emeryis the most feasible candidate that has been put forward with Antonio Conte and Vicenzo Montella also mentioned as possibilities. Conte is the most accomplished on that list but his salary of close to €6 million is a bridge too far while Montella does not fully convince with AC Milan sitting in seventh in Serie A.
The former Sevilla manager is a different proposition though. After the defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League and sitting second in Ligue 1, a position they are not familiar with having won the title for the last four years on the trot, Emery is not as secure in his position as he might like.
Finally, the seemingly imminent arrival of Monchi at Roma would also give more credibility to the report. The pair worked together in Andalusia for three years and won the Europa League for three years in a row.
